Look Up

inspired by Numbers 21
“Look Up” is an original Christian worship song inspired by Numbers 21 and the story of the bronze serpent, pointing to Jesus Christ lifted up on the cross. Written in a dark acoustic worship / desert Americana style, the song invites listeners to turn their eyes from fear, sin, and struggle to faith, healing, and salvation in Christ. Through intimate male lead vocals, gentle female harmonies, and a prayerful acoustic arrangement, Look Up calls believers to trust God’s redemption, rely on His power in spiritual battles, and find life by looking to Jesus alone.
Look Up was written during a time of reflection on Numbers 21, where the Israelites, worn down by the wilderness, allowed complaint and discouragement to turn their hearts away from God. The appearance of the bronze serpent became a moment of unexpected grace—God did not remove the desert, but He provided a way to live within it. Healing came not through effort or understanding, but through a simple act of faith: lifting one’s eyes.
While meditating on this passage, the connection to John 3:14–15 became unmistakable. Just as the bronze serpent was lifted up for the healing of the people, Jesus was lifted up on the cross so that all who believe might receive eternal life. This realization shaped the heart of the song: redemption begins when our gaze shifts—from fear to faith, from pain to promise, from ourselves to Christ.
Musically, Look Up was intentionally written in a restrained, prayerful style. The dark acoustic and desert Americana tone reflects the wilderness setting of the story, while the gradual build mirrors the quiet journey of trust that forms when faith replaces despair. Rather than dramatic triumph, the song moves toward steady confidence—an unshakable assurance that God meets us when we choose to look to Him.
Look Up is not only a retelling of a biblical moment, but a personal invitation for today. In seasons of waiting, spiritual battle, or exhaustion, the song reminds listeners that victory does not come from striving harder, but from lifting our eyes again to Jesus—the One who was lifted up, and who still brings healing, life, and hope.
Numbers 21:8–9
“The LORD said to Moses, ‘Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.’ … If a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.”
John 3:14–15
“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.”
Isaiah 45:22
“Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.”
Romans 10:9–11
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Exodus 14:14
“The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
2 Chronicles 20:15
“Do not be afraid… for the battle is not yours but God’s.”

We walked through dust and broken ground,
Our hearts grew tired, our faith wore thin.
We spoke against the road You gave,
And felt the weight of our own sin.
The fire came, the pain was real,
We cried for mercy in the night.
You spoke a word to Moses then,
And raised a sign before our eyes.
Look up, just look up,
Not to our strength, not to our fear.
Look up, just look up,
Your mercy is already here.
Look up and live again,
Your grace is stronger than our death.
It wasn’t bronze that healed our wounds,
It wasn’t what our hands could do.
We only turned our eyes in trust
Toward what You lifted into view.
In weakness we chose to believe,
In pain we dared to raise our sight.
And in that simple act of faith,
You met us with restoring life.
Look up, just look up,
In the desert You remain.
Look up, just look up,
Your love is greater than our shame.
Look up and live again,
Your mercy calls us home.
As the serpent lifted high,
So was the Son of Man.
On the cross You bore our curse,
The judgment we could not withstand.
Now all who look to You in faith
Will never walk in death again.
I lift my eyes and see Your wounds—
There is my healing, there is my rest.
Look up to Jesus, lifted high,
Look up to love stretched open wide.
Look up to Jesus, Light of Life,
All who believe will never die.
We face our battles every day,
With trembling hearts and weary hands.
But when we turn our eyes to You,
We stand in strength we didn’t have.
Not by our power, not by our might,
But by Your Spirit we endure.
When we choose trust instead of fear,
The victory is already Yours.
Look up…
I look up…
In every desert, every night,
I look up to You.
Look up…
I look up…
You are my healing, You are my life,
Forever I look up.
Father in Heaven, as we finish singing “Look Up,” we come before You with humble hearts. You see how easily we grow weary, how quickly fear and discouragement can turn our eyes away from You. Just as You showed mercy to the people in the wilderness, You remind us today that life and healing are found not in our striving, but in looking to You.
Lord, teach us to lift our eyes to Jesus, the One who was lifted up on the cross for our salvation. When we are wounded, exhausted, or surrounded by spiritual battles, help us choose faith over fear and trust over complaint. Fix our hearts on what You have already done, not on what we lack or cannot understand.
Father, may this song become more than words we sing. Let “look up” become our daily response in every season—when the road is dry, when the night feels long, and when the victory is not yet visible. Fill us with Your peace, strengthen us by Your Spirit, and lead us forward in quiet confidence, knowing that all who look to You will find life. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
