Calling from the Burning Bush
Here I Am
Exodus 3 Worship Song
Exodus 3 Worship Song
When I was reading Exodus 3, I didn’t expect to be so moved. It’s a familiar story—the burning bush, the holy ground, God calling Moses—but this time it felt personal, almost like the scene slowed down. Moses wasn’t in a temple or a “spiritual moment.” He was simply doing ordinary work in an ordinary day, carrying the weight of a past he thought he couldn’t undo. And then God spoke—quietly, clearly—calling him by name.
What touched me most wasn’t just the miracle of a bush that burned without being consumed. It was the tone of God’s calling. God didn’t shout Moses into mission. He met him gently, in the wilderness, where Moses had learned to settle for “this is just my life now.” God’s voice didn’t deny Moses’s fear, but it also didn’t let fear have the final word. In that holy moment, God gave Moses something stronger than confidence in himself: the promise of His presence—“Don’t be afraid… I will be with you.”
That’s why I wrote “Calling from the Burning Bush.” I wanted the song to sound like that moment feels: intimate, trembling, reverent—like standing too close to something holy. The repeated lines are intentional, because calling is often like that. God doesn’t always speak once and move on; He calls again and again, until the heart finally dares to answer. The hook—holy ground, don’t be afraid, I will be with you, here I am—is meant to be easy to remember, like a prayer you can hold onto when you’re tired.
And the more I sat with Moses’s story, the more I thought about us. Many of us are walking our own wilderness roads—quiet seasons, delayed dreams, regret, burnout, hidden grief, the feeling that our “best years” are behind us. But Exodus 3 reminds us that God often meets people in the wilderness, not after they’ve become brave, but while they’re still shaking. Sometimes the turning point isn’t a new situation—it’s realizing that the ground you’re standing on has become holy because God is there.
This song is my way of responding to that truth. If you’re in a wilderness season, I hope it helps you slow down and listen. Maybe God is closer than you think. Maybe the call is already there—waiting around the bend. And when you’re ready, even if your voice is small, you can answer the way Moses did: “Here I am.”

【Verse 1】
That day was quiet out in the open land,
Just sheep and dust and a shepherd’s hands.
Then I saw fire in the thorn-bush glow—
It burned and burned, but it wouldn’t go.
【Pre-Chorus】
Then You called my name, so close, so clear,
And I stood still… shaking here.
【Chorus (Repeat)】
From the burning bush, you calling, calling me,
Pulling me back again—calling me, calling me.
You said, “Take off your sandals, you’re on holy ground.”
You said, “Don’t be afraid, I will be with you now.”
Calling from the burning bush, calling me, calling me,
And I’m answering You: Here I am… here I am…
【Verse 2】
You didn’t push me past my fear,
You drew me in and You held me near.
You said, “I see it,” You said, “I hear,”
“I’m making a way—I’m already here.”
You put Your courage inside my chest,
So I could learn it’s not me—it’s grace.
【Pre-Chorus 2】
You still call my name,
And I’m still in Your light.
【Verse 3】
Maybe I’m walking my wilderness road,
Trying to carry what’s too much to hold.
But who knows—right around the bend,
You might be waiting there again.
If You say, “This is holy ground,”
I’ll lay it down—slowly lay it down—
My pride, my doubt, the walls I’ve built around.
【Bridge (Repeat)】
Here I am, here I am,
Lord, I’m listening.
Here I am, here I am,
With You with me… with You with me…
【Outro (Repeat)】
From the burning bush, You’re calling me,
You say, “Don’t be afraid, I will be with you.”
Calling from the burning bush, You’re calling me,
And I’m answering You: Here I am.
Here I am… here I am…
Father in heaven, thank You for meeting us the way You met Moses—right in the middle of an ordinary day, in the middle of the wilderness, with a presence that is holy and tender. As we’ve sung about the burning bush, we remember that You are not distant. You see what we’re carrying, You hear what we’ve been afraid to say, and You call us by name.
Lord, help us to “take off our sandals” in our hearts. Teach us to slow down, to stop performing, and to come near with reverence. We lay down our pride, our excuses, and our unbelief. We lay down the fear that says it’s too late, we’re not enough, or our story is already decided. Your holiness doesn’t push us away—it invites us to be made new.
Jesus, we hold on to Your promise: “I will be with you.” Let Your presence be stronger than our anxiety, louder than our shame, and steadier than our emotions. Where we feel weak, give us courage. Where we feel stuck, make a way. Where we feel numb, awaken our hearts again. Not by our strength, but by Your grace.
And today we answer You simply: Here I am. If You are calling us to forgive, to go, to serve, to speak, to trust, or to begin again—give us willing hearts and obedient steps. Keep us close, keep us humble, and let our lives reflect Your glory. We ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.
