A Prayer of Reverence and Wisdom: The Fear of the LORD
Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful and humble hearts, thanking You for the gift of Your Word and for the beauty of Psalm 111. We praise You, for Your works are great, Your righteousness endures forever, and Your name is holy and reverend. You are a God full of grace and compassion, a God who remembers His covenant and provides for His people.
Lord, as we have sung these words, we are reminded that “the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.” Teach us what it truly means to fear You—not with fear that drives us away, but with a holy reverence that draws us closer to You. Help us to live with hearts that honor You, that listen to Your Word, and that desire to walk in Your ways each day.
We confess that there are times when we rely on our own understanding instead of seeking Your wisdom. Forgive us for the moments when we forget Your works, overlook Your faithfulness, or fail to walk in obedience to Your commands. Gently turn our hearts back to You, and give us a deeper desire to follow You with sincerity and truth.
Father, Your Word says that a good understanding belongs to those who do Your commandments. Give us not only knowledge, but hearts that are willing to obey. Help us to apply Your Word in our daily lives—in our thoughts, our words, and our actions—so that our lives may reflect Your truth and Your righteousness.
We thank You that You have sent redemption to Your people and that Your covenant stands forever. When we feel uncertain or weak, remind us that You are faithful. When we feel lost, guide us with Your truth. And when we feel burdened, let Your compassion and grace restore our souls.
We also lift up those around us. For those seeking direction, give them wisdom that begins with the fear of the LORD. For those struggling in their faith, strengthen them with the assurance of Your faithfulness. For those who do not yet know You, open their hearts to see Your great works and to experience Your love. May Your Word go forth through this song and bring light, hope, and truth to many.
Let this song remain in our hearts, not just as music, but as living truth. May we remember Your works, trust in Your covenant, and walk in reverence before You. Help us to live wisely, to love what You love, and to praise You with our whole hearts.
In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
