“Lord, You Know Me” is an emotional Psalm 139 worship song about being fully known, loved, guided, and held by God. A prayerful Christian song for quiet time, healing worship, Bible meditation, and surrender.
“Lord, You Know Me” is a heartfelt worship song inspired by Psalm 139, a psalm that speaks deeply to anyone who has ever felt unseen, misunderstood, anxious, hidden, or alone. This song carries the comforting truth that God searches us, knows us, surrounds us, and still loves us completely.
Based on the words “Lord, You have searched me and known me,” “Your hand shall lead me,” “I am fearfully and wonderfully made,” and “Search me, O God,” this song moves from comfort into surrender. It begins with the wonder of being fully known by God, then rises into the prayer: “Search me, O God, and know my heart. Lead me in the everlasting way.”
Musically, “Lord, You Know Me” blends intimate whisper-tuned male vocals, close-mic singing, a weary and weathered emotional tone, oud-forward acoustic guitar, soft female harmony, and rich choir harmonies. The result is a quiet, cinematic, prayerful worship atmosphere—personal like a whispered prayer, yet spacious like a sacred choir rising in the dark.
This song is especially fitting for personal devotion, nighttime prayer, quiet worship, Bible meditation, healing moments, repentance, surrender, and times when the heart needs to remember: God sees me. God knows me. God is still with me. Even in the darkest night, His hand can lead me, and His right hand can hold me.
May this Psalm 139 worship song help you rest in the love of the God who knows you completely and lead you again into the everlasting way.
Psalm 139 has always been one of my favorite psalms. It is not a distant or abstract passage to me. It feels like a gentle light shining into the deepest places of the heart. Every time I read the words, “O Lord, You have searched me and known me,” I am deeply moved. These words remind me that before God, we do not need to hide, pretend, or prove ourselves. He already knows us. He knows our thoughts, our ways, our words, our weakness, and even the longings we do not know how to explain.
This time, when I read Psalm 139 again, I knew I had to write a song from it. The psalm is too beautiful to only be read quietly. It needs to be sung. It does not only tell us that God knows everything; it shows us that God’s knowledge is not cold or distant. His knowing is full of love, mercy, presence, and care. He knows when we sit and when we rise. He understands our thoughts from afar. Before a word is on our tongue, He knows it completely. Even if we fall into the deepest darkness, the night is not dark to Him. Even there, His hand can lead us, and His right hand can hold us.
When I began designing the visual world for this song, I chose a warm and gentle little boy as the main visual character. This was not because the song is a children’s song. It is not. This song is written for adults, for anyone who needs to be comforted, known, searched, cleansed, and guided by God. I chose this little boy because I believe that deep inside every one of us, no matter how old we are, there is still a “child-self.”
This “child-self” is not childishness. It is not immaturity. It is the most honest, pure, tender part of who we are. We may become strong on the outside. We may learn how to carry responsibility, face pressure, hide our tears, and keep going through life. But deep within the heart, there is still a part of us that longs to be seen, understood, held, and gently told, “I know you. I have not left you.”
Sometimes this child-self comes out in a lonely night. Sometimes it appears in a moment of weakness. Sometimes it even rises quietly in the middle of our best days. It reminds us that beneath all our strength, we still need love. We still need the hand of God. We still need light.
That is why, in the video, the little boy and the small bird walk, rest, pray, look up into the light, pass through darkness, fly toward the morning, and are gently led toward a bright path. These images are not simply telling the story of a child. They are showing the journey of the soul. They represent the part inside each of us that can still feel afraid, still feel wounded, still become quiet, still pray, still be drawn toward the light, and still learn to trust again.
After creating these visuals, I felt something very deep. It was as if I could see my own child-self. I saw the part of me that does not need to be strong in front of God, does not need to explain everything, and does not need to cover anything up. I was so moved by that moment. I felt excited, touched, and even brought to tears. Psalm 139 was no longer only saying that God knows who I am today. It was reminding me that God knows the deepest, softest, most original part of me as well.
“Lord, You Know Me” begins with the comfort of being known by God and slowly becomes a prayer of surrender. It sings, “Lord, You know me, deeper than I know myself,” and then it prays, “Search me, O God, and know my anxious heart. Lead me in the everlasting way.” This is not a fearful prayer. It is a prayer of trust. Only before a God who truly loves us can we open the deepest places of our hearts and ask Him to cleanse us, guide us, and lead us home.
My hope is that when you listen to this song, you will not only hear the melody and the words, but that your own child-self will be gently touched. No matter how strong you look on the outside, no matter how much pain you have carried, no matter how tough life has made your heart, there is still a tender place within you that God knows, cherishes, and holds with love.
May “Lord, You Know Me” become more than a song. May it become a quiet prayer and a journey back into the presence of God. May it help you see yourself again in His light and believe again that He knows you, sees you, loves you, and still takes your hand to lead you in the everlasting way.
This song may also become the beginning of something new. I hope to continue creating a series of “child-self songs”—songs illustrated with warm, gentle, and pure visuals that help adults return to the most honest place in the heart. In that place, may we meet the love of God again, learn to trust again, and rediscover the simple, true, open-hearted self that still lives within us.
139 O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.
2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
21 Do not I hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Based on Psalm 139
Verse 1
Lord, You have searched me,
You know me through and through.
When I sit and when I rise,
I am known by You.
When I walk and when I rest,
You see every road I take.
Before a word is on my tongue,
You know all I will say.
Pre-Chorus
Such knowledge is too wonderful,
Too high for me to reach.
Before I even whisper a prayer,
You hear the heart in me.
Chorus
Lord, You know me,
Deeper than I know myself.
You surround me, before and behind,
You lay Your hand on me.
Lord, You hold me,
Even in the darkest night.
Your hand will guide me,
Your right hand holds me tight.
Verse 2
Where can I run from Your Spirit?
Where can I hide from Your face?
If I rise up to the heavens,
You are there in that place.
If I fall into the shadows,
Still You will not let me go.
Even darkness shines before You,
Like the morning glow.
Pre-Chorus 2
If I take the wings of morning,
To the farthest sea,
Even there Your hand will lead me,
Your right hand carries me.
Chorus
Lord, You know me,
Deeper than I know myself.
You surround me, before and behind,
You lay Your hand on me.
Lord, You hold me,
Even in the darkest night.
Your hand will guide me,
Your right hand holds me tight.
Verse 3
You formed my inmost being,
You wove me in the womb.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made,
And my heart knows it is true.
Before my days had started,
Your eyes had already seen.
Every page You wrote for me,
Before I learned to breathe.
Bridge
Search me, O God,
And know my anxious heart.
Try me and know
Every thought inside.
See if there is any way
That leads me far from You.
Cleanse me and lead me, Lord,
In the everlasting way.
Bridge 2
How precious are Your thoughts toward me,
How vast beyond all sand.
If I could count them one by one,
Still I’d wake within Your hand.
In my weakness, in my breaking,
Still Your love is holding me.
Take my hand and lead me on
In the way of eternity.
Final Chorus
Lord, You know me,
Deeper than I know myself.
You surround me, before and behind,
You lay Your hand on me.
Lord, You hold me,
Even in the darkest night.
Your hand will guide me,
Your right hand holds me tight.
Final Prayer Outro
Search me, O God,
And know my anxious heart.
Try me and know
Every thought inside.
See if there is any way
That leads me far from You.
Lead me, hold me,
In the everlasting way.
Lord, You know me,
And I belong to You.
When I awake,
I am still with You.
Lord, You know me,
And I belong to You.
When I awake,
I am still with You.
Lord, thank You for knowing us completely and still loving us deeply. You see what others cannot see. You know the thoughts we cannot explain, the fears we try to hide, the wounds we carry quietly, and the prayers we do not know how to say. Thank You that we are never invisible to You, never forgotten by You, and never too far for Your hand to reach.
You have searched us and known us. You know when we sit and when we rise. You understand our thoughts from afar. Even before a word is on our tongue, You know it altogether. Such knowledge is too wonderful for us, and today we rest in the comfort that we do not have to pretend before You. We can come as we are, because You already know us and still invite us near.
Search us, O God, and know our hearts. Try us and know our anxious thoughts. Show us anything within us that leads us away from You—any hidden pride, fear, bitterness, sin, or unbelief. Cleanse our hearts with Your mercy, soften what has grown hard, heal what has been wounded, and lead us again in the everlasting way.
When we walk through darkness, remind us that darkness is not dark to You. When we feel lost, let Your hand guide us. When we feel weak, let Your right hand hold us. When we wake in the morning, help us remember that we are still with You, still seen by You, still held by You, and still loved by You.
May this song become more than words we sing. Let it become our prayer, our surrender, and our comfort. Lead us closer to Your heart, teach us to trust Your presence, and help us live each day as people who are fully known and fully loved by You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
