My Heart Magnifies the Lord | Magnificat Worship Song | Luke 1 Mary’s Song
My Heart Magnifies the Lord is a Christian worship song inspired by Luke 1:26–55 and Mary’s Magnificat. Explore the lyrics, Bible verses, song story, and prayer behind “My Soul Magnifies the Lord” and “Let It Be According to Your Word”—a song of faith, surrender, and trusting God when the road ahead is unknown.
My Heart Magnifies the Lord is an original Christian worship song inspired by Luke 1 and Mary’s beautiful song of praise, traditionally known as the Magnificat.
The song begins with the angel Gabriel coming to Mary with a message that would completely change the course of her life. Mary was young and ordinary, and she did not fully understand what lay ahead. Yet in the midst of surprise and uncertainty, she gave God a remarkable response of faith:
“I am the servant of the Lord… let it be to me according to your word.” — Luke 1:38
Mary’s surrender did not come because she could see the entire road ahead. She chose to trust God while many questions still remained.
Later, when Mary visited Elizabeth, that quiet surrender overflowed into praise: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” She praised the God who sees the humble, remembers His promises, fills the hungry with good things, and shows mercy from generation to generation.
This song follows that journey—from surrender to praise—but it does not end with Mary’s story.
We are ordinary people too. We have our own plans, fears, questions, and uncertain tomorrows. There are times when God’s direction is different from what we expected, and we may not understand where He is leading us. Faith does not mean that we always have every answer or never feel afraid. Sometimes faith is simply being willing to place ourselves in God’s hands and say:
“Let it be according to Your word.
Let it be fulfilled in me.”
May My Heart Magnifies the Lord become your own prayer as you listen and worship. When the road ahead is unclear, may God give you a willing and trusting heart. And through every season, may your soul still rise in praise:
“My soul magnifies the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in my Savior.”
The angel Gabriel tells Mary not to be afraid, because she has found favor with God. He then announces that she will conceive and give birth to Jesus.
This is the unexpected moment that changes Mary’s life. God’s calling leads her onto a road she had never planned for herself.
“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Mary responds, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.”
These words are at the heart of this song. Mary does not know everything that lies ahead, yet she chooses to trust God and surrender herself to His will. Her response inspires the repeated prayer in the song: “Let it be according to Your word; let it be fulfilled in me.”
Elizabeth calls Mary blessed because she believed that what the Lord had spoken to her would be fulfilled.
Mary’s faith was not simply hearing God’s promise—it was trusting that God was faithful enough to accomplish what He had said.
Mary begins the Magnificat by declaring, “My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.” She praises God for looking upon her humble condition and for the great things He has done.
These verses are the direct biblical inspiration for the title and chorus of My Heart Magnifies the Lord.
Mary praises God whose mercy continues from generation to generation. She speaks of the God who lifts up the lowly and fills the hungry with good things.
The Magnificat reminds us that God sees people the world may overlook. His greatness is revealed not only in power, but also in mercy, faithfulness, and His care for the humble.
Mary closes her song by remembering God’s faithfulness to Israel and His promise to Abraham and his descendants.
The story of Mary is part of a much greater story. The God who spoke His promises generations before had not forgotten them. In Jesus, His saving plan was unfolding just as He had promised.
“My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.”
May these words become more than Mary’s song to us. May they become our own response of worship—trusting God in what we understand, surrendering what we do not understand, and magnifying Him through every season of life.

Inspired by Luke 1 — The Magnificat
Verse 1
An angel came to a quiet town
With words of promise from above
Though she wondered, though she feared
Still she trusted God was near
Pre-Chorus
I am the servant of the Lord
Let it be to me according to Your word
Though I cannot see the road ahead
I will trust You, I will follow You
Verse 2
She came to Elizabeth's home
And praise arose within her soul
You lift the humble from the dust
You fill the hungry with good things
You remember every word You spoke
Your promise made to Abraham
Through a humble, willing heart
Your saving grace began to unfold
Chorus
My soul magnifies the Lord
My spirit rejoices in my Savior
You remember the humble
You see the ordinary
The Mighty One has done great things
Holy is Your name
Your mercy flows from age to age
To all who honor You
Verse 3
I am only an ordinary soul
I grow weak, I fear the unknown
When Your way is not the way I planned
Let Your desire become my own
Though tomorrow I cannot see
Though I still have questions in my heart
Give me, Lord, a willing heart
To trust You on the harder road
Bridge
Let it be according to Your word
Let it be fulfilled in me
Let it be according to Your word
Let it be fulfilled in me
Not because I understand
Not because I have no fear
But because I know that You are near
I surrender all I am to You
Final Chorus
My soul magnifies the Lord
My spirit rejoices in my Savior
You remember even me
You use an ordinary life
The Mighty One still does great things
Holy is Your name
Your mercy flows from age to age
And still it reaches us today
Outro
My soul magnifies the Lord
My spirit rejoices in my Savior
Let it be according to Your word
Let it be fulfilled in me
Mm—
My soul magnifies the Lord
Heavenly Father, thank You for Mary’s example of faith and surrender. When Your message came to her, she could not see everything that lay ahead. She had questions, and the road before her was uncertain, yet she was willing to place her life in Your hands and say, “Let it be to me according to Your word.”
Lord, we confess that we often want to understand before we trust. We want to know the outcome before we obey. When Your direction is different from our plans, or when the future feels uncertain, fear can make us hold tightly to what is familiar. Give us hearts that are soft toward You—hearts willing to listen, trust, and follow even when we cannot see the whole road ahead.
We are ordinary people, and sometimes we feel that what we have is too small to matter. Yet You see the humble, You remember those the world may overlook, and You can work through an ordinary life surrendered to You. Teach us to be faithful in our homes, our work, our relationships, our service, and the quiet places where no one else sees.
When questions remain unanswered, remind us that Your presence is enough for the next step. When fear rises, help us remember Your faithfulness. When our plans change, teach us to seek Your heart rather than simply asking You to fulfill our own desires.
And as surrender became praise in Mary’s heart, may it become praise in ours as well. Open our eyes to see Your mercy, Your faithfulness, and the quiet ways You are working around us. May our souls magnify You not only when life makes sense, but also while we are waiting, trusting, and walking by faith.
Father, we place ourselves and our unknown tomorrows into Your hands. Let Your desires become our desires, and let Your way become the way we are willing to walk.
Let it be according to Your word.
Let it be fulfilled in us.
May our souls magnify the Lord,
and our spirits rejoice in our Savior.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
